ith the launch of the Above and Beyond Campaign, our church is taking one of the most ambitious and faithful steps in our 35 year history. Since the very beginning, on February 10, 1980, when 240 people braved ice and snow to attend the first worship service held at Thomas Elementary School, the people of Custer Road United Methodist Church have been willing to do whatever it takes to respond in faith. As such, it was a leap of faith that enabled our church to celebrate its first worship service at our present location on March 27, 1983. A few years later, our church took another leap of faith to construct our beautiful Sanctuary which was completed on May 27, 1990. And since that time, many have sacrificed to build many times over so that our church would be in the position that we are in today. In response to what God has done in years past, now is the time for us to consider what God is calling us to do today and in the years to come.
In order to keep pace with the ever-growing needs of our congregation and the community we are called to serve, it is time for us to step out in faith by going Above & Beyond in order to be the church that is Building for Generations to Come.
When we consider the opportunity that is before us, I invite you to join me in praying the prayer: “Lord, what do you want to do through me?” This prayer has been on my heart for months. Having seen what God has already done, I have every confidence that God is going to enable us to do whatever it takes to see that every single person in our community is given the opportunity to experience the love and grace of Jesus Christ.
